WHEN SMATLEADS IS THE RIGHT CALL

If you want one tool that finds, verifies, writes and sends, SmatLeads does more of the job than ZipLead and costs less at the top end: their $99 plan undercuts ZipLead's $179. Email verification before sending is the one to weigh hardest. Unverified addresses bounce, bounces damage a sender's reputation, and ZipLead does not verify an address it finds. Bing Places and LinkedIn are genuinely different pools from Google and Foursquare as well, not worse copies. One caution that applies to their site and not to the product: it is stacked with user counts, open rates and revenue figures that only they publish. Judge the tool on a trial, not on those numbers.

WHEN ZIPLEAD IS THE RIGHT CALL

When the reason you are calling has to hold up. ZipLead's signals are readings it actually took: the certificate it fetched, the software on the page it downloaded, the DNS answer, the license record and the day it was read. Nothing is estimated and nothing is written by a model. If a business has no checked fact behind it, ZipLead gives you no reason rather than a plausible one.

WHAT SMATLEADS DOES BETTER

Where SmatLeads beats ZipLead.

Specific, and checkable on their own pages. If one of these is the thing you need, buy theirs.

  • Bing Places and LinkedIn as sources, which are different pools from Google and Foursquare and far less picked over.
  • Real-time email verification before sending. ZipLead finds emails on a business's own site and does not verify them, which is a genuine gap.
  • SMS sending built into the same sequence as email. ZipLead has no outbound channel at all.
  • Multi-step email and SMS sequences that stop when someone replies.
  • Branded site audit PDFs, 100 a month on their middle plan, which is a document you can hand a prospect.
  • A writing assistant with templates for cold email, follow-ups, ads, landing pages and proposals.
  • Ten team seats on their $99 plan. ZipLead has no team features.
  • Cheaper at the top end: $99 against ZipLead's $179.
THE HONEST GAP

Where SmatLeads leaves you short.

SmatLeads covers more of the job than ZipLead does, and its own site is the only source for most of what it claims. The part that is missing is the part ZipLead is built on: nothing in it reads a public record, so there is no license status, no person named on a license, and no practice contact from a national registry.
